Sometimes it helps to see how far you’ve come through the eyes of others. Up until now, I wasn’t sure how I was going to use Substack, beyond my subscription to Make Writing Your Job—but here I am!

As I said in my interview with Amy, I am truly a girl’s girl. I can’t think of one of my published pieces that wasn’t written with a female reader in mind. I’m not sure that the anecdotes I shared about my Family Circle pieces were as helpful as I intended them to be. My intention was for listeners to come away knowing that a personal essay can be about anything—as long as it connects. I can help with that here. I’ll launch some prompts, share some essay topics that I’m working on (and submitting!), and ooze with encouragement. That’s what I do, I ooze. It can’t be helped. I’ve tried.

I hope you get something from subscribing to what I have to say here. Friendship, like writing is my oxygen. The deeper I’m getting into writing my memoir, the clearer it is to me. In the spirit of friendship, let’s get personal about essays.
